Adult Movie Theatres in Philadelphia

Pennsylvania · last checked 24 September 2026

Philadelphia still has a room with a screen and seats in it, which puts it ahead of most of this list. Scorpio, off Juniper Street in Center City, runs a small multi-screen theatre and a bank of peep booths, and there is a second shop with booths up on State Road. The Forum on Market Street, the city’s last real porn palace, is a car park.

Do not go looking for the Forum

2208 Market Street has been a car park since 2013. The Forum is still carried by guides and still turns up in searches for adult cinemas in Philadelphia, because for years it was the only answer. The building is gone, not merely closed.

The last porn palace

The Forum opened on 14 July 1972 with a single screen and 250 seats, and it outlasted every other adult cinema in the city by decades. Philadelphia Magazine went to see it in 2007 and called it the last porn palace, which by then it was.

It did not fall to a raid or an ordinance. The city had refused the owners permission to expand the Forum to take in Les Gals, a venue a block away, after the neighbours objected. Then the rent went unpaid.

  2. 0230 November 2012Eviction notice served.
  3. 03First week of December 2012The Forum shows its last film after forty years.
  4. 04February 2013Demolished. The site becomes parking.
Five months from the writ to the rubble.

Look at the photograph again. The banner on the tower behind the marquee is advertising mortgages at once-in-a-lifetime pricing. That block was worth more as somewhere to park than as somewhere to sit, and the same arithmetic has closed more of these places than every court case on this site put together.
