Adult Movie Theatres in Toledo

Ohio · last checked 20 October 2026

Two places in Toledo have rooms, and there is a third with three separate theatres twenty-eight miles out on US 6. What makes Toledo worth reading is a reply the operator of one of them posted in February 2026. A customer complained about the booths. The operator answered by explaining, in public and in plain terms, exactly which laws had rearranged his shop, and that they found out the hard way.

What is still open

Has
Booths with films, paid in dollar bills
Rules
One customer per booth, doors cut short
Hours

Until some point before August 2024 this traded around the clock. It does not now. The booths take dollar bills rather than tokens, which the operator is specific about, and somebody watching films here in August 2026 had an ordinary good time of it.

Go in knowing two things. The booth doors have been cut down, so the gap at the bottom is wide, and the reviewer who noticed it in February 2026 did not like it. And it is one person per booth, not by house rule but by law.

The same reviewer complained about announcements over a loudspeaker telling customers to get in their booths and that tokens were not dropping. The operator replied that this was a different shop, since theirs does not use tokens. We cannot settle that, so take it as unresolved.

North end of the city. A man who drives an hour and a half to get here went in at one in the afternoon on 12 May 2026 and wrote the only description we have: the video area was clean, it did not smell, the man behind the counter was pleasant, and he will be back. That is thin but it is current and it is specific.

Out on US 6 past Fremont, and the best-equipped thing in reach of this city. Three rooms, a different film in each, one of them for couples and one of them for a man on his own. You buy a pass and you can leave and come back on it.

Two warnings. It changed hands and reopened in 2024, so the room description is from the reopening rather than from this year. And a customer in May 2025 had driven over three times to find the doors shut inside the posted hours. Phone first.

Two more trade in the city and neither is counted. Modern Adult 1634 on Woodville Road, (419) 720-8776, opens at five in the morning and runs to eleven at night, which are arcade hours, but nobody has written a word about the inside of it and we are not going to guess. The other Adult Pleasures on Monroe Street reads as a shop.

The operator wrote it down himself

Most of this directory is assembled sideways. A chain answers a question about one store and you infer the policy. A city passes an ordinance and years later the shops are gone and nobody connects the two. You almost never get the operator explaining what happened to his own building.

On 22 February 2026 the operator of Adult Pleasures replied to a bad review and did exactly that.

  1. Shut at midnight

No liquor licence, so they can no longer trade 24 hours.

Ohio Revised Code 2907.40, with its liquor-permit exemption — covered on the Columbus page

  2. Doors cut short

The booth doors were cut down, in accordance with the law.

The standard open-booth provision: nothing in the booth may be hidden from view

  3. One man per booth

One customer per booth, in accordance with the law.

The same rule North Carolina writes into state statute — covered on the Charlotte page

Three rules this directory found in three different states, all of them on one shop on North Detroit Avenue, described by the man who had to comply with them.

Then the sentence that holds the page together. The doors and the hours, he wrote, were the exact reason they were raided, and they must comply with city, state and federal law.

So the enforcement event was a raid, and the outcome was not a closure. It was a shop that still trades, with shorter doors, shorter hours and one man per booth. That is what compliance looks like from the inside, and this is the only page on this site where somebody on the receiving end has described it.

One honest caveat on the hours. In August 2024 the same business told a different customer the midnight closing came from a county ordinance. The rule that does precisely this in Ohio is the state statute, section 2907.40, and its one exemption is a liquor permit, which is the exemption the operator himself named eighteen months later. We have not found a Lucas County ordinance. The effect is not in doubt; the citation is.

The last time Toledo wrote a law about this, it lost

Rose La Rose was a burlesque headliner, said to have been the first in the business paid two thousand dollars a week. She did not retire quietly. In 1958 she bought the Town Hall at St Clair and Orange, a building that had stood since 1887, and ran it as a burlesque house herself.

Urban renewal took the Town Hall in 1968. Weeks before the demolition she auctioned off her own costumes, and she bought the Esquire at Superior and Jefferson to carry on in.

Businessmen on that block went to the city council, and in March 1968 the council banned burlesque. She went to federal court and came out with an injunction stopping the city from enforcing it.

She was still running the Esquire in 1972, by then showing adult films with burlesque now and then. She was diagnosed with cancer in 1971 and died in July 1972, and the accounts agree that burlesque in Toledo died with her rather than with the ordinance.

Set the two halves of this page beside each other. In 1968 the city wrote a law aimed squarely at this trade and a federal judge threw it out. In 2026 the state did not need a law aimed at anybody: a midnight closing, a rule about doors and a rule about occupancy, and a raid to make the point. Nobody went to court. The booths are still there and the doors are shorter.

Thirty years on Sylvania Avenue

Reopened

Closed again

Sold
27 October 2020, for $220,000

A neighbourhood cinema from 1928 that spent three decades on adult programming, closed, and came back eighteen months later under a name with the word arts in it. A contributor who looked in during November 2012 recorded what it actually was: an adult theatre with an arcade.

That rename is a move this directory keeps meeting. Lexington had a Downtown Cinema showing foreign films on its way to pornography; Pittsburgh and Hartford both had an Art Cinema. Here the respectable name arrived last instead of first, and it bought four years.

It shut in January 2017, traded for a while after that as a private members club, and that listing is marked closed too. The building was standing and empty in 2020 and sold that October for $220,000 against a $600,000 asking price.

Downtown had gone long before. The Esquire outlived Rose La Rose by six years and closed on 3 November 1978, became a rock club called the Bijou and then the Asylum in the early 1990s, and was demolished in 2007. The Gayety on St Clair opened in the 1920s as the Strand, was the Guild by 1950, ran live burlesque through the 1960s and finished as an adult cinema.
